Innovative online EMDR group program: Enhancing EMDR therapist confidence and advancing group-based EMDR in Australia

Description

Mindful Living Counselling and Psychology presents a world-first online EMDR Group Program exclusively for EMDR therapists. This cost-effective, convenient program provides therapists the opportunity to personally experience EMDR in a supportive group format, addressing professional blocks or personal issues that impact their clinical effectiveness. In this program, EMDR therapists experience an adapted version of the Integrative Group Treatment Protocol (IGTP) by Jarero and Artigas. Across three 2-hour online sessions, participants are guided to reprocess chosen targets, such as barriers to professional confidence, vicarious trauma, or other personal issues. This EMDR group program seeks to reduce therapist attrition by addressing common challenges such as hesitation, self-doubt, and ambivalence often experienced post-EMDR training - issues highlighted by Andrew Leeds at the 2023 EMDRAA conference and further explored during the 2024 EMDRAA Consultant’s Day. The program also demystifies group-based EMDR, builds familiarity with this format, and encourages therapists to consider training in delivering EMDR in a group setting, enabling them to offer this option to clients or make referrals to external group programs. By promoting familiarity with group EMDR, the program advances a cost-effective, accessible therapeutic option to people across Australia.
