Exploring a novel reconnection protocol for grief: When the loves lives on

Description

Nearly every life will be challenged by the loss of a loved one and can benefit from support. This presentation details the pioneering development of an EMDR resource development installation (RDI) reconnection protocol for grief, adapted from the standard RDI protocol by Korn and Leeds (2002). Drawing on the adaptive information processing model and the continuing bonds model of grief, this reconnection protocol aims to facilitate a healthy emotional reconnection to a lost loved one through accessing positive memories and strengthening adaptive memory networks, which can help to foster attachment, security, safety, and posttraumatic growth. Case studies will be presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the protocol in reducing symptoms of grief and enhancing an ongoing connection to lost loved ones. This presentation will showcase a novel application of EMDR therapy to address complex grief processes, bridging the gap between traditional grief therapy and innovative EMDR techniques. By exploring the intersection of research and practice, including innovation in EMDR therapy, this presentation offers a comprehensive understanding of its diverse uses and highlights the potential for groundbreaking advancements in the field of grief therapy. Implications for clinical practice, research, and the broader application of EMDR therapy in diverse settings will be discussed.
