Effectiveness of EMDR for trauma-related OCD in children and adolescents: A pre–post SUD analysis of 14 cases

Description

This poster reports on a clinical series examining the effectiveness of EMDR therapy for trauma‑related obsessive–compulsive symptoms in children and adolescents. Fourteen cases presenting with OCD linked to identifiable traumatic or adverse experiences received EMDR following the standard 8‑phase protocol, with adaptations for developmental level. Pre‑ and post‑treatment Subjective Units of Disturbance (SUD) scores were analyzed to assess changes in distress associated with core intrusive images, sensations, and obsession‑linked memory networks. Across cases, EMDR produced substantial reductions in SUD ratings, alongside observable improvements in emotional regulation and symptom interference. Findings support EMDR as a promising intervention for trauma‑related OCD presentations in youth and highlight the need for controlled studies to further validate outcomes.
