Effectiveness of EMDR for trauma-related OCD in children and adolescents: A pre–post SUD analysis of 14 cases

Description

This poster presents a clinical series evaluating EMDR therapy for trauma‑related obsessive–compulsive symptoms in children and adolescents. Fourteen youth with OCD presentations linked to identifiable traumatic or adverse experiences received EMDR using the standard 8‑phase protocol with developmentally appropriate modifications. Pre‑ and post‑treatment Subjective Units of Disturbance (SUD) scores were analyzed to assess changes in distress associated with intrusive images, sensations, and trauma‑anchored obsessional material. Across cases, EMDR produced marked reductions in SUD ratings and observable improvements in emotional regulation, behavioral interference, and symptom rigidity. Findings support EMDR as a promising intervention for trauma‑related OCD in young clients and underscore the need for controlled research to further validate these outcomes.
