A study on improving generalized anxiety disorder using the EMDR bilateral stimulation wearable device
Description
EMDR is an effective therapeutic approach for psychological trauma and autonomic nervous system disorders. Through bilateral stimulation, it helps the brain reprocess key memories that trigger anxiety, reduces the intensity of negative emotions, and establishes more positive cognition, thereby achieving autonomic nervous system balance. EMDR is a rapid, effective, and convenient emotional treatment technique that can immediately alleviate generalized anxiety [1]. Based on this concept, this study designed a wearable device consisting of: a smart eye mask worn on the user's face, a PPG-based smart sensing wristband worn on the wrist, and Bluetooth earphones worn in both ears. A smart phone APP is used to control the smart eye mask and Bluetooth earphones to generate stimulation signals. This study employs a closed-loop neuromodulation (CLN) system to regulate physiological stimulation. The built-in PPG sensor in the device provides real-time data on heart rate (HR) and heart rate variability (HRV). Artificial intelligence processes these bio signals and delivers neuromodulator stimulation to the patient, with the aim of correcting autonomic nervous system function. As a result, patients can achieve anxiety relief.
