Reconnecting: Trauma, addiction and group EMDR interventions

Description

Individuals who struggle with addictive disorders often have complex trauma histories. Treatment for this population is often offered in organizations that may have to contend with time and staffing limitations. Group work has traditionally been a integral part of addiction treatment and can be used to address both clinical and administrative needs. This presentation will explore the connection between trauma and addiction and how this information can be used to inform Phases 1 and 2 of the EMDR therapy process. Then, the common resourcing needs of this population will be reviewed along with ways to meet some of those needs with group EMDR Therapy.
