Description

The Constant Installation of Present Orientation and Safety (CIPOS) method is helpful in assisting children to overcome their fear of their traumatic memories. With the help of a strong, basic feeling of security and stability, the child focuses on the memory of a traumatic experience for a defined and very controlled period of time. This can be done by imagery—depending on the age of the child—or with the help of pictures the child has drawn. The imagery or picture depends on the preference of the child. Drawing and active movement is helpful when working with younger children and for the older, active child as well. Alternative protocols are included toward the end of the chapter.
