Use of pre-treatment mental health screening measures to predict posttraumatic growth in veterans treated with EMDR

Description

The purpose of the study was to investigate which mental health screening measures would be the best predictors of posttraumatic growth for B=Veterans (N=32) admitted to a PTSD Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program who received EMDR individual therapy combined with group CBT. All subjects had diagnosis of PTSD. It was hypothesized that pretreatment scores on the PTSD Checklist - Civilian version (PCL-C), Beck Depression Inventory - II (BDI-II), and Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) would be the predictors of Posttraumatic Growth Inventory (PTGI) scores are heightened distress would limit growth (inverse relationship). Congruent with previous conceptualizations of posttraumatic growth, there would be a curvilinear relationship between pre PCL-C, BAU, and BDI-II scores on PTGI post-treatment scores for a larger sample (N=285) of patients receiving various treatment modalities.
