A task shift for EMDR? Simplified group and individual applications of the EMDR recent-traumatic episode protocol (R-TEP) for emergency situations

Description

The context of this workshop relates to the accessibility of EMDR therapy in emergency and disaster situations that is often limited by the shortage of trained clinicians immediately available when relatively large numbers of trauma victims are involved. Inspired by Rolf Carrier’s call for a ‘task shift’ for EMDR the issues involved are raised and possible directions discussed. The focus of this workshop gives an overview of the Protocol (R-TEP) and presents a new practical application: the G-TEP (Group Traumatic Episode Protocol) –with its worksheet format for simplified utilization in emergency situations. The EMDR R-TEP and G-TEP have shown beneficial results in controlled studies working with Syrian refugees.
