The use of EMDR for counseling couples considering divorce

Description

The process of considering divorce is likely to activate what is known as “small t” trauma reactions in each individual of the couple (Cvetek, 2008). In recent years, there has been a surge of interest in investigating how EMDR may be used for these more common traumas that can have a strong impact on individuals and couples. For this presentation, I will outline how EMDR can be utilized with a composite case couple who are considering divorce. A case description, treatment planning, therapist rationale for certain interventions, therapist decisionmaking, and client outcomes will be outlined.
