A case study of EMDR therapy for middle-age male diagnosed with opoid dependence, trauma and exposure to adverse childhood experiences

The use of EMDR in the treatment of substance use disorders and addictive behaviours is unheard of in Singapore. This case study traces the life phenomenology of a middle-aged male client in helping him with his struggle with opiod dependence, reduced neuro-cognitive functions resulting from two motor accidents and untold past of adverse childhood experiences. It also discusses on the use of the Adaptive Information Processing model in conceptualising the case and considerations in treatment provision. The use of identified EMDR protocols to facilitate healing for this male client is also discussed.
