EMDR in obsessive compulsive symptoms in young children: Case series

Description

• Various Studies have shown onset of Obsessive Compulsive (OC) Behaviors in Very Young Children (3 years to 8 years)(Hirano et. al, 2007; Jennifer et. Al, 2014 ).
• Allemagne (2009) suggested EMDR offer promising techniques and new avenues in research exploring the efficacy of EMDR and OCD. It was hypothesized that processing the overwhelming fears and ritualized behaviors at the epicentre of OCD could decrease symptoms of OCD (A de Jongh, 2009).
• There are no concrete evidence so far, to show that EMDR has been effectively used in treating preschoolers or young children with OC Behaviors or OCD. According to Tinker & Wilson (1999), EMDR can be easily executed and take less sessions. With 5-8 years of age, the Negative Cognition (NC), the PC (positive condition) and VOC (validity of cognition) are likely to be unobtainable and they have an easier time identifying emotions than cognitions. In this poster, case series of 5 young children with OC behaviours and EMDR procedure and response to EMDR is described.
