EMDR in the treatment of depression

Severe depression is one of the most common mental disorders and affects between 5-15% of the general population in their lifetimes. High relapse rates (ranging at 50% after two years), unsatisfactory remissions and suicidal risks are among the major problems. There is a link between stressful life events and the onset of depressive disorder. The presenter will report the status of research on the subject, a natural history follow up study and current controlled studies underway to explore the use of EMDR in depressive patients. He will outline the EMDR protocol (DeprEnd) to treat depressed clients.
