Autism focused EMDR therapy
Description
Due to the lack of information in the literature and lack of research in using EMDR therapy with children with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), I have developed my own methods incorporating suggestions from other EMDR therapy practitioners (see references).
The usual phases of EMDR therapy provide the structure, however, they are not enough to keep ASP children (those with high functioning autism or Asperger’s Syndrome) interested and on task and they do not allow for some of the challenges faced by the neurominority. Children with ASD’s have challenges due to difference ways of understanding, processing, and working out information.
