Multidimensional inventory of dissociation: Presenting updated mid analysis and expanded interpretation manual
Description
The Multidimensional Inventory of Dissociation (MID) has become a valuable assessment tool for EMDR clinicians to determine presence of pathological dissociation, and readiness for trauma reprocessing. The MID is a 218- item, self-administered instrument with 168 dissociation items and 50 validity items developed by Paul F. Dell, PhD (2006, 2011). The MID reliably differentiates and offers a diagnostic impression for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Otherwise Specified Dissociative Disorder, Dissociative Identity Disorder, Somatization Disorder and Borderline Personality Disorder. Participants will learn to administer and score the MID, and navigate the MID Analysis to input client responses, view and interpret results. Indications to assess for pathological dissociation, and practical steps of how and when to do so within EMDR therapy will be described. Processes of conducting a follow-up interview will be reviewed. Case examples will be discussed to teach administration, scoring, and interpretation, and how the MID has been used to clarify diagnosis and treatment planning with clients and consultees.
