What do music facilities, a social networking service and a horse ranch have in common? Innovative applications of EMDR

Description

Today most EMDR Therapy is done in community-based counselling agencies, counselling departments within larger organizations and various types of private practice settings. Future growth opportunities are in further penetrating these settings, but also in developing innovative new settings and applications. This workshop will present three examples of innovative settings within which EMDR is being used, i.e., prestigious music faculties, a social media organization and a horse ranch. Three experienced therapists will outline how they use EMDR therapy within these innovative settings: to achieve peak performance and resolve past trauma with music students & performing artists; to prevent and treat vicarious trauma in social media Content Moderators, whose job requires them to view and evaluate horrific content; and to integrate with Equine Assisted Therapy to resolve trauma with first responders, veterans & their families. Presentations will outline the use of EMDR Therapy within each setting, including: how the context defines the therapists’ role; goals; adapting EMDR & integrating with other treatment modalities; developing working relationships with atypical settings; and the non-clinical issues that have to be addressed to work therapeutically within the different settings. A Case Study from each context will be shared to illustrate typical issues encountered. A list of other examples of innovative settings or populations will be distributed. Participants will be encouraged to take what they learned and develop innovative applications for EMDR that harness their passions, interests and skills.
