The efficacy of eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) in the treatment of victims of domestic violence

Description

Successful treatment for trauma and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are needed given social and physical impairments linked to them. In reviewing the history of EMDR and its impact on the treatment of trauma, I attempted to create a research project that examines the impact of EMDR on the treatment for victims of domestic violence. The study is valuable in that it sheds light onto a clinician's viewpoint on EMDR treatment for victims of domestic violence. This mixed methods research highlighted key themes that allowed a life experience from clinicians who have treated victims of domestic violence while also examining quantitatively a clinician's viewpoint on the efficacy of EMDR treatment on victims of domestic violence. This study has proven that psychologists should consider EMDR treatment for victims of domestic violence as all six clinicians in this study recommended EMDR as treatment for victims of domestic violence.
