Hold onto the love, not the loss – Attachment-focused EMDR for complicated grief

Description

The death of someone important to us is experienced almost universally over the course of a lifetime, regardless of religion, race or culture. While most experiences of grief naturally ease over time, some people’s grief becomes ‘stuck’ or refuses to go away many years after the loss. Given the similarities between grief and trauma –avoidance behaviours, intrusive images, altered cognitions about oneself and the world – EMDR can be used effectively to treat complex or prolonged grief. Attachment focused EMDR is particularly relevant given that grieving is more often complicated, prolonged or complex when the loss is a key attachment figure. This workshop will focus on specific considerations and protocols for using EMDR with grief, practical strategies and an engaging activity with fictional case studies.
