El dolor crónico afecta al 19% de la población europea, y tiene importantes consecuencias en la calidad de vida de las personas, en sus relaciones familiares y sociales, y en el ámbito laboral. Numerosos estudios han mostrado que en su origen, cronificación y mantenimiento intervienen factores físicos, cognitivos y emocionales. Esta revisión sistemática se propone conocer la evidencia empírica sobre la eficacia de la terapia EMDR en pacientes con dolor crónico, así como la relación entre trauma y dolor. Para tal fin, se han seleccionado diez estudios científicos, publicados entre 2008 y 2022, de los cuales cuatro son ECAs y seis, ensayos observacionales no controlados. Los resultados han mostrado que la terapia EMDR es eficaz para reducir la intensidad y el trauma asociado al dolor, así como los síntomas de depresión y ansiedad, por lo que esta terapia podría incluirse como tratamiento complementario en las unidades de dolor de los centros sanitarios.

This systematic review sets out to find out the empirical evidence on the efficacy of EMDR therapy in patients with chronic pain, as well as the relationship between trauma and pain. For this purpose, ten scientific studies have been selected, published between 2008 and 2022, of which four are RCTs and six are uncontrolled observational trials. The results have shown that EMDR therapy is effective in reducing the intensity and trauma associated with pain, as well as symptoms of depression and anxiety, so this therapy could be included as a complementary treatment in the pain units of health centres.
