Description

The need for group interventions designed to alleviate collective human suffering in a quick way, requiring few temporal, material, and specialized resources is increasing exponentially in our lifetime. This chapter describes the Acute Stress Syndrome Stabilization (ASSYST) procedures, in group (ASSYST-G) and individual (ASSYST-I) formats, as well as defines the ASSYST procedures treatment objectives, explains the importance of the ASSYST procedures in clinical practice and field work, and identifies in which situations to apply the ASSYST procedures. The phases of the ASSYST procedures are described, as well as in which situations and with which populations the ASSYST procedures have been used, and how clinicians can structure and implement the ASSYST-G in a variety of settings, including private practice.
