Harnessing the healing power of animals: Animal assisted interventions and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing

Description

The integration of Animal-Assisted Interventions (AAI) with dogs and horses, alongside Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), represents a groundbreaking approach to treating trauma and other psychological disorders. This presentation will explore the theoretical underpinnings, practical applications, and benefits of combining these innovative therapeutic modalities. Through a thorough look at recent research and real-life case studies, attendees will better understand how AAI and EMDR can work together to improve emotional processing, the relationship between the therapist and client, and the therapeutic environment. Special attention will be given to ethical considerations, patient safety, and animal welfare. Mental health professionals will leave the presentation with valuable tips on using AAI with dogs and horses in all 8 stages of the EMDR protocol and a clear outline of the difficulties and things to think about when using the AIP model. The presentation is targeted at all mental health professionals, as well as other professionals involved in AAI who are seeking to expand their toolkit of interventions for trauma and psychological disorders.
