The trauma after the trauma: EMDR for betrayal trauma experienced by veterans

Description

This workshop focuses on developing skills in adhering to the EMDR protocol for the treatment of Veterans and First Responders exposed to trauma in the line of duty. In addition to the obvious traumas, these professionals often experience secondary betrayal trauma due to the lack of support from families, departments, municipalities, and communities. Using Freyd’s definition of betrayal trauma, this workshop will expand case conceptualization for using EMDR with Veterans and First Responders to include the trauma after the trauma. Videos, and didactic material will be presented to enhance case conceptualization by considering the cascading traumas that originate from the career exposure and betrayal trauma.
