EMDR psychotherapy case conceptualization with a reverse protocol

Description

A foreshortened sense of future is a symptom of diagnoses such as major depression and PTSD. Clients with complex trauma, those who are extremely dysregulated because of attachment issues and/or dissociative symptoms, along with witnesses to crime, may struggle for some time before being able to participate in the trauma reprocessing phases of EMDR psychotherapy. Case conceptualization for these clients may indicate extended resourcing and skill building before being able to participate in needed trauma reprocessing. The Reverse Protocol offers an alternative to stopping EMDR psychotherapy altogether or staying in the Preparation Phase for an extended period of time by reprocessing targets in reverse order – future/present/past.
