Critical care, rapid response & early EMDR intervention: Helping people quickly and dffectively during the COVID-19 pandemic

Participants interested in providing mental health critical care, rapid response, or early intervention for individuals or groups, in-person or online, will be introduced to the Acute Stress Syndrome Stabilization (ASSYST) procedures and the EMDR Integrative Group Treatment Protocol for Ongoing Traumatic Stress (EMDR-IGTP-OTS). As of August 2021, these interventions have 37 published articles. The ASSYST procedures are Low-Intensity-Interventions that give us the possibility of direct, non-intrusive, physiological engagement with the client’s distressing/pathogenic memories and their original components causing the nervous system hyperactivation. Their objective is focused on the client’s nervous system activation regulation, to facilitate the AIP system, the subsequent adaptive processing of the distressing information. Presenters will talk about two published articles on the provision of the ASSYST procedures to populations affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The EMDR-IGTP-OTS is a Medium-Intensity-Intervention that allows for the individual reprocessing of prolonged adverse experiences (like the COVID-19 pandemic) in large and small group settings, making mental health services more accessible and affordable. Presenters will show the results of a Multisite RCT on the provision of this protocol delivered online to Health Professionals Working in 10 Hospitals During the Covid-19 Pandemic. The presenters will also share demonstration clips of the procedures and protocol administration.
