Reconnecting: Trauma, addiction, and group EMDR therapy
Description
Addiction is a painful human dilemma. The fallout from unaddressed substance and behavioral addictions continues to challenge us culturally and clinically. Group work and using a trauma informed approach are essential components of treatment. Using EMDRTherapy within addiction treatment, in groups, seems a natural progression. While addiction treatment takes place in a variety of settings and assists individuals in ever-shifting stages of change, EMDR therapy has proven to be adaptive enough to meet the needs of many populations. Using EMDR in a group context with this population is a newer concept–one that provokes unique challenges and the opportunity for discussion and exploration.
