Integrating group EMDR into current disaster mental health: A model for practice

Description

EMDR early intervention groups (EEI) help disaster survivors to disrupt the accumulation of traumatic memories. This chapter suggests a practical, practice-driven model for using EEI-gs in the context of disaster mental health to update current practice. A case example of the model that combines psychological first aid, resilience based groups, and EEI groups is provided along with steps to respond with EEI groups. This chapter recommends the integration of EEI groups into the current care to increase the healing power of prevention in disaster mental health and to increase the capacity 104 to serve the growing number of humans affected by war, natural disaster, mass violence, and critical incidents.
